Winter Field Day

On the last full weekend in January Hams from around the United States and beyond participate in emergency communication in winter environments. Basically it is the same event as field day but held in winter where freezing temperatures, snow, ice and other hazards may pose concerns to standard operating conditions. For example how to you insert a ground rod for you equipment when the top 8 inches of the ground is frozen solid.

The Winter Field Day event aims to help participants improve their preparedness for disasters and enhance their operational abilities in adverse conditions. Digital, CW and Voice  modes are all welcome as well as any frequency that your license allows you to transmit on. The rules are updated each year so please check the official website for more details at https://winterfieldday.org/ or see our post below to get more information about our past and upcoming participation.
