Field Day 2023

Welcome to Field Day 2023 The ARA will follow the highly successful setup procedures that we first tested in 2021, and followed again last year (2022); we plan to setup the antennas Friday at a more leisurely pace. That was a change from the more traditional Saturday morning full setups. Beginning the setup on Friday provided much needed time for testing, reconfiguring, and re-testing throughout the day – followed by a final round of tweaking and radio setup Saturday morning. The conduit that the Ruritan installed during their build-out a few years ago, has been temporarily removed from the plan, although it did seem to work relatively. Friday’s setup begins June 23 at 9AM; Saturday setup begins June 24 at 9AM. There is more to be sorted out at the next meeting, so please check back… The Dinner Saturday’s dinner is scheduled for 5P, but is not set in stone. It may be a bit earlier/later, depending on members' needs and desires. The club will provide: Fried Chicken Mac and Cheese Baked Beans Potato Salad Cole Slaw Chips/Pretzels Disposable plates, cups, napkins, etc… What can I bring? Members may bring whatever items they choose to help supplement the chicken and sides – desserts, snacks, cookies, cakes, pies, etc… All are welcome and appreciated! Those items that don’t require refrigeration are best suited, but we are not restricting what members decide to bring for Saturday’s dinner. Throughout the day the ARA will provide: Water Sodas of assorted varieties Ice It is the time of the year that nearly all hams looks forward to – partially because of the chance to stretch their rigs' legs and/or try out new antennas, but mainly because of the shared experiences and fellowship with their fellows operators. The Antietam Radio Association usually holds its Field Day at the Leitersburg Ruritan Park, in Leitersburg, MD. This year, Field Day 2023, operations will encompass June 24 & 25, beginning at 2 PM ET (1800 UTC) Saturday and continuing for 24 hours until 2 PM ET (1800 UTC) Sunday. Please join us!

Amateur Radio Satellite Ops Presentation

During the last Activities Meeting held October 15, Joe Maguire, WA1ZZQ, presented amateur radio Satellite Communications, and what he has learned since becoming interested in that aspect of the hobby. Joe gave a very informative and interesting presentation, which he accompanied with slide presentation. Joe has made his slides available to anyone who wishes to download them!

Be part of

something special!

Whether you're “old-timer” or are brand new to amateur radio, the Antietam Radio Association is a great place to meet new people and learn more about the art, science and skill of Amateur Radio. Being part of a club increases the enjoyment you will get from the hobby, so with that in mind, if you are within the regional Hagerstown area, join us!

Membership is not required to attend meetings; they are open to all who are interested.

If you are not located within a reasonable distance, we still encourage you to find a club close to you… a good starting point is the ARRL’s club search (the ARRL is the Amateur Radio Relay League, which is the National Association for Amateur Radio).
